Defcon 12 and Blackhat
The annual Defcon and Blackhat conferences in Las Vegas, NV have come to an end. This year marked the 12th annual Defcon conference, bringing together some of the worlds greatest minds in Information Security.
Some very cool things of note from Blackhat this year include a Bluetooth "sniper rifle", essentially a very cool antenna sporting a one kilometer range, and the release of RFDump, a utility allowing one to read and display all metadata within an RFID tag. It also allows a user to modify that data, or wipe it completely. This application of course brings up all sorts of interesting possibilities, but most interesting is the ability to wipe the tags themselves completely clean.
More information about the respective conferences can be found on their web sites. One of these years I hope to be in attendance.
