T-Mobile rescinds free WAP access
As of 2 weeks ago, free WAP access stopped working on my phone. Mobiletracker confirms that the program has been ended. As they point out, this was an unpublicized program that T-Mobile was running, and no one expected it to last forever. They still offer a $4.99 package that offers the same features, which in some cases is better than what a lot of other providers have to offer as the WAP doesn't take away from your wireless minutes.
I had been using this pretty extensively while traveling over the last 2 months, and it worked like a charm with my Powerbook, providing me access to the internet where I otherwise wouldn't have had it. It's a great benefit to be able to pull off of the freeway, pull up mapquest and check those directions or get a phone number. I'm not sure I will be getting the $4.99 package as most of my traveling for the year should be pretty taken care of, but it's certainly worth considering.
