Hell Freezing Over Today
Today is the day for the Intel announcement if it's going to happen. Given the extreme number of reports from semi-reliable sources, I would say this is a pretty safe bet at this point. Of course one might wonder why, when all of the next generation video game consoles are headed toward the PPC chips Apple would choose to veer over into intel.
The most plausible thing I have heard is Laptops. IBM has yet to deal with heat issues adequately enough to stuff a G5 in a laptop, and at this point, one wonders if they ever will. Also, it cannot be discounted that His Steveness made a 1 year pronouncement of a 3Ghz G5 based on the best estimates of IBM engineers, and the egg on his face gets more rotten with every revision to the G5 line which almost 2 years later is still 300mhz short of that mark. Steve does not like having egg on his face.
Because Steve hates you, and won't let you watch his keynote live online, Coverage of the WWDC keynote is availablehere in miserable updating text form.
